Saving a Filipino Jewelry Heritage with DANI TAN of AMAMI

This episode is an story of how a dying Ilocano jewelry tradition was saved by two young social entrepreneurs.

During the Spanish colonization, the native art of jewelry making was also used by the Spaniards to spread Christianity in Philippines. They use it as a tool to replace amulets and talismans worn by the native Filipinos.

A lot of Filipinos began wearing crucifixes and scapulars along with tambourine necklaces. The tambourine or sometimes spelled as “tamburin” is a traditional Filipino jewelry patterned after the rosary.

Today, brand ambassadors include big names such as Pia Wurtzbach, Bea Alonzo and Mimiyuuh. They have also been featured in many shows and magazines including Vogue.
