Parenting Academy

The first Parenting Academy by MLAC Psychological Services, Inc. is happening on February 7, 2015 at the Henry Sy Auditorium of the St. Luke’s Hospital Global City. This is a whole day affair that starts at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30pm. MLAC is headed by our foremost child psychologist Dr. Honey Carandang.

I still remember my encounter with Dr. Honey at the Shangrila Mall in 2010. At that time I had already finished the manuscript of my book Raising Pinoy Boys and I was really thinking of how to ask her to write the Foreword. During my younger mom days, I listened to her in various parenting talks and I felt a connection probably because she, too, has three sons.

We were both at National Bookstore of Shangrila Mall looking for books one afternoon in 2010. I wondered if it was the right time and place to approach her, then I remembered her son Ricky whom I had known during my investment banking days. But something told me to just do it! So I approached her and introduced myself, “Hi Dr. Honey I’m Rose…”

She was very gracious and bubbly as she was during the talks I attended. We chatted for a bit – about my book project, our respective three sons, and other things. Then she asked me to send her the digital manuscript which she promised to read during her trip to Boston.

And there you go, I was once again the recipient of other people’s generosity. The country’s foremost child psychologist wrote the Foreword of my first book!

I will forever be grateful to Dr. Honey’s generosity.
